In this study, we intend to discuss how the imagination and feelings of men may act in the historical field in differently ways and directions, making a reposition in the comfort history zone: the full reconstitution of the past. To address this repositioning, we will keep to what was regarded as the resurgence of metaphor for the interpretation of subjectivities in the historical text rather than its abuse. The metaphor, therefore, will be treated here as a methodological factor that operates developments and semantic substitutions, a measured deviation of the senses, of the brands present on the source’s surface. We observe, finally, that this process is nothing more than a reaction against both the research on history subjects that insist on reaffirming the Aristotelian principles to expose the categorical relationship between fiction and history, as against the maid abstraction in subjectivities semantically distant of the respective source. Its historical object reaction can be seen with the initial advancement of cultural history studies in the last quarter of the last century, with the north figures such as Roger Chartier, Paul Ricoeur and Sandra Pesavento.

Desde a cronística, a história de Portugal inscreve-se num horizonte mítico e profético, história convertida em objeto de lenda e acontecimento de ordem simbólica. Para essa inscrição, veremos que a representação épica da expansão marítima foi fundamental para a manutenção da grandiloquência do passado europeu, sobretudo em Portugal, justamente em momentos de regime e opressão. Por outro lado, veremos que Fernando Pessoa transforma essa herança épica em instrumento de crítica, abrindo-se para o sentido da esperança no que remete ao futuro. Torna-se, assim, necessário frisar que o épico, sob esse enfoque combativo, jamais perdeu seu potencial expressivo, ainda que algumas das suas manifestações tenham recebido um tratamento antitético. Nesse estudo, observaremos como Pessoa aponta, em Mensagem, a existência de uma outra Índia por descobrir, localizada nos recantos do imaginário e da vontade onírica de busca dos próprios portugueses. Abstract: Since of the chronic tradition, the history of Portugal is based in a mythical and prophetic horizon converted history into legend object and an event of symbolic nature, For the epic representation in Portugal, the maritime expansion is fundamental to maintain the grandiloquence of the moments and oppression. On the other hand, we are going to see that Fernando Pessoa turns this epic heritage in a critical tool, opening himselves for the sense of hope as regards the future. It is therefore necessary to evidence that the epic, in this combative approach, never lost its expressive potential, although its manifestations have often received more antithetical treatment. In this study, we will observe how the portuguese poet points out the existence of another undiscovered India, located in imaginary places and dream of themselves.

In this article, we discuss that one of the most important aspects of
Naufragios (1542) by Cabeza de Vaca is the cultural clash between Europeans and Native Americans, and the consequent identity transformations. Upon reflection on the difference and the identity transformation of those colonized and conquered, we analyze
the narrative composition of this account, as well as the historical data presented. However, it will be observed that instead of thinking about the differences that potentially composed the traveler being and the one conquered, there are a strong critical tendency that only mythologizing those subjects, representing the Iberian travelers like someone completely believer in their material wishes and imaginations. Thus, our aim is to evaluate Cabeza de Vaca as an example of a thirsty traveler for riches who is able to experience the new moving between cultures without the dominance of the marvelous
imaginary.

This article will compare a historical document, the Relationship (1497) of Alvaro Velho, with a literary work, the Peregrinação de Barnabé das Índias (1998) of a contemporary Portuguese writer called Mario Claudio. The reason for this comparison is that, seeing the documentary's first trip to India images, summarized with splendor in its military power and technicality in the exhibition of new scripts, calculations and navigation practices, what we have in reality is a great silence on physical and mental weaknesses of the crew, as well as a silent about the view of the eastern communities that received such company. Not to mention the possible censure that the relationship had passed after the end of the company, especially hiding the negatives points, which are completely absent from the historical version considered official . Is in the gray area of this historical episode that the great novelist mentioned seems to have found his field. The lack of concrete data on this journey of discovery, he appealed to the contextualization, especially when he explore a possible historical imaginary around the episode. Sensible to the research of cultural history, Mário Cláudio invested in the mental habits and in the fantastic forms that reappear in almost all areas of the Renaissance current life. So he invests in a denser representation of the Gama’s trip, integrating it to a complex historical imaginary.

Considering the critic aspects of the Contemporary Portuguese Literature, we intend to analyze the recent novel Caim, written by José Saramago. In this article we are going to see how the novel is constructed of a revisionist way to put into question the sacred, benevolent and religious characters of the common reading of the biblical myth of Cain. In a brief comparison between the religious text and the novel, we will discuss the ways in which such work fiddles with some gaps and biblical dogmas, subverting certain parts of the Old Testament.

Along with the legendary and heroic figure of Vasco da Gama from traditional narratives and chronicles of Portuguese history, there are many other biographical and fictional versions of his “story”. In this article, we present some of these versions, which reflect particular historical tendencies in history throughout many centuries, and reveal a certain imaginary instability and political bias in the representation of heroes. By considering Vasco da Gama a thematic issue we will be able to read subsequent writing about his “life” as part of an imaginary and political development of historical methods.

Read the works of Jules Verne (1828-1905) allows the reader to get in touch with a world model in scientific development and discovery, an ideal model designed by European evolutionists and technicist of the nineteenth century. Therefore, in this research, the question that going to guide our investigation on this huge literary production is: his works would be a utopian ideal model based on the exaltation of science and emerging technology or Verne would have questioned this model? We note that the French writer is best remembered by the conventional reading about his books, confirming the technological exaltation than the literary criticism that performs the scientific culture of the time, through its dystopian effects.

The fact that historical knowledge implies the construction of documentary series was a truism among historians until the middle of twentieth century. However, less obvious was the attitude of Ginzburg, and some other intellectuals, who valued the anomalies that arise in the documentation, replacing that series for a qualitative mapping.
It showed the importance of the literary studies in the historiographical analysis, beside this, the qualitative method takes the essay as a privileged form to the past investigation, form that Ginzburg learned how to transport carefully to the historiography. What characterize this process is exactly the capacity of evaluate the lecture possibilities of a complex reality constituted by rare testimonies. This method is very
functional to recognize interpretation possibilities in the proof gaps. It can be applied in the Holocaust historic investigation, because your victims obviously did not survive to report their experiences as prisoners of the gas chambers, which existence is a doubt for many researchers. However, we are going to observe how this documental gap is not
a motive to the absent of a dense investigation of its facts, having here as the main study vehicle the essays produced by Ginzburg.

The reconstruction of history introduced by the novels Orion (2002) and Peregrinação de Barnabé das Índias (1998) points to the filling of voids and gaps left by the long tradition of narratives that appealed to the issue of maritime expansion, and which secondarily involves the theme of Jewish exile. In this void, subjectivity gains strength through representation of the marvelous, in order to help demystify the radiant image of Kings and Captains, and exalt the silenced Jews. These aspects provide originality to Mário Cláudio’s writing, ensuring a literary text of great creative power and dense historical, sociological, and literary representation of Portuguese culture.

This article consists in a discussion about some writings that are part of a real production from the portuguese discoveries and navigators in the sixteenth century. Such relations, reports, journals, scripts, epics, dialogues and skits that make this collection rich and which today are seldom studied and disseminated by educational institutions. Its potential contributions to the study of epistemology, anthropology, literature, history and even to interdisciplinary studies, are indisputable. The article also takes the space to allow a brief part for scientific study and categorical about the Travel Literature, examining some researches already undertaken about these productions involved in the historical context highlighted.

This essay propose a comparative study between an explain about Mensagem by Fernando Pessoa and an explain about the symbol of the portuguese coat-armour remaked in the fifhteen century. For a better
understanding, this study includes the history of both objects, envolving the portuguese cultural project proposed by Pessoa during his intellectual carrer and some moments of the oversea history.

The modern narrative, either within the history or under the fictional perspective, when establish a new verisimilitude convention replaces the veracity status and based itself on the myth and the fantastic in order to favor, with these elements, the representation of a subjective matter of historical extraction. Considering this transformation, in this study, we are going to deepen some theoretical and analytical questions about the meaning of the fantastic and its determination by a historical conjuncture, expressing subjective claims that belong to a precise time. For this, we will take as north the David Roas’s reflection, which consider the fantastic as a mediator between language and reality, not conceptualizing it only as false element. So, the fantastic will not be considered here only from the perspective of improbability, but in a perspective of the representations and the socio-cultural practices associated with this type of imaginary.

Resumo: Abordaremos, no presente artigo, que os aspectos relativos à medicina oriental se revelam como parte constituinte e não matéria única dos Colóquios dos Simples e Drogas da Índia de Garcia da Orta, médico particular do navegador Martim Afonso de Sousa. Na disposição dialógica por ele apresentada no citado texto, notaremos como os aspectos de sua identidade judaica trazem, à narrativa, tensões que visam driblar a censura inquisitorial, registrando as marcas poéticas suscitadas pelos vários conflitos político-religiosos travados com os católicos durante o Renascimento. Desse modo, fica nossa investigação longe de limitar-se à análise do registro dos fármacos Orientais até então desconhecidos no Ocidente, pois levaremos em consideração que, nos Colóquios, os diálogos ganham também um outro sentido ao se centrarem na marca dessa diáspora provocada pelos crimes e discriminações sociais de que os judeus e cristãos-novos ibéricos eram vítimas há tempos. Isso nos incentivará, por fim, a tomar os diálogos de Garcia da Orta como parte de uma larga literatura renascentista que se revela promissora para o estudo do campo estético em contextos de intensa censura, bem como para o estudo sobre o gradual surgimento de uma estrutura narrativa que prenuncia o romance burguês.

Desde Camões, sabemos que não é somente de esplendor e heroísmo que foi construído o perfil de Vasco da Gama e suas viagens. O romance Peregrinação de Barnabé das Índias (1998), de Mário Cláudio, é um exemplo importante de que a viagem do Gama, longe de ser um definido episódio histórico, é uma fonte plural de interpretação. Para mostrarmos que essa obra de Mário Cláudio não é uma mera reprodução da forma através da qual muitos cronistas narraram tal empresa com o protagonismo dos grandes vultos da história oficial, julgamos conveniente situar o autor e sua obra em relação à tradição crítica em que se insere, buscando sintetizar um percurso pontuado pelas manifestações históricas e literárias que também cobrem a representação das viagens gâmicas e com as quais o autor dialoga. Tal exercício investigativo nos remeterá a um balanceamento cultural sobre Vasco da Gama enquanto tema, nos permitindo olhar de forma mais atenta e substanciada os intertextos e os diálogos construídos na obra através dos registros dessa tradição. A necessidade desse alargamento na pesquisa se justifica pelo fato de que o escritor Mário Cláudio apresenta uma faceta de investigador e de bibliófilo que, encontrando na literatura a continuidade da sua atividade profissional, o faz inscrever eruditamente cada um de seus livros respeitando a herança cultural de seu tema ou objeto de representação. Veremos que um dos temas intertextuais mais prestigiados por Mário Cláudio são os portentos e os bestiários da nossa tradição ocidental. Tais elementos vão ter um papel imaginário muito importante no plano representativo em várias de suas obras, especialmente na Peregrinação de Barnabé das Índias. Constataremos que nessa obra é predominante a representação literária de um imaginário opressor que reflete a necessidade humana de experiências novas. Esse é o principal movimento circunscrito no romance, que serve ambiguamente à representação do maravilhoso da tradição épica e como “contradiscurso” ou contramitologia às questões sociológicas implicadas pelo seu contexto cultural. Nessa dupla estratégia de representação, encontraremos a originalidade de sua escrita, garantindo ao leitor um texto literário de densa pesquisa e grande poder criativo.

Este projeto busca no processo de refiguração narrativa definido por Paul Ricoeur (2010) a sua principal ancoragem teórico-metodológica para analisar os cruzamentos metafóricos entre história e ficção realizados pelo romance contemporâneo. Diante de tal estratégia, nos sensibilizaremos para o fato de que a metáfora da qual se serve esse processo de refiguração suscita a abertura de um real possível mediante o texto ficcional, provocando o surgimento de uma narrativa que pode resultar menos evasiva se a compararmos com os vários aspectos heurísticos que pode conter um romance fundamentado pela metáfora. A fim de analisarmos e avaliarmos o valor referencial e crítico desse conceito mediador redirecionaremos seu campo de reflexão ao tema eminente das navegações ultramarinas, clamando com essa escolha a necessidade de rever os sentidos da construção narrativa e identitária que a história oficial dos descobrimentos até então promovera sob os auspícios de sua expressão épica. Nosso objeto de estudo situa-se, portanto, no amplo campo da reflexão sobre as relações metafóricas entre ficção e história através dos estudos de Paul Ricoeur, mas delimita como âmbito específico de seu interesse aquilo que podemos qualificar como a refiguração histórica das navegações ibéricas no romance contemporâneo. Para isso, propomos examinar aqui um trio de narrativas produzidas nesse tema recentemente, e que se compromissam com um processo de refiguração dos relatos históricos de três significativas empresas ultramarinas: a primeira viagem à América liderada por Colombo (El último crimen de Colón, de Marcelo Levinas), a primeira viagem feita ao Oriente por Vasco da Gama (Peregrinação de Barnabé das Índias, de Mário Cláudio) e, por último, a primeira circunavegação da história realizada pela esquadra de Fernão de Magalhães (Maluco. Romance dos descobridores, de Napoleón Baccino). Observaremos, com essa literatura, que a história das navegações ibéricas passa a se constituir não pelo valor dos registros fidedignos do seu conjunto de relatos de viagem, mas pelas marcas que a denunciam como um espaço de luta do significado, tornando-se, sobretudo, um locus de reflexão acerca tanto do fazer do relato quanto das suas relações de força com o contexto ultramarino e com o nosso próprio contexto pós-colonial. Por isso, abordaremos os romances em questão de modo a esclarecer que todos eles parecem articular uma refiguração da história das navegações ibéricas, sendo essa refiguração um significado positivo, justamente porque parece fazer revalidar a ideia de história ao reformular as premissas ideológicas e as estratégias figurativo-discursivas do próprio relato. Essa reformulação nos proporcionará uma aplicação diferencial da referência figurada no horizonte textual das fontes, advogando para sua leitura e representação uma analogia entre a explicação do passado e a compreensão narrativa que põe em relevo a diversificação, a hierarquização e a refiguração dos recursos formais e heurísticos dos registros.

O reconhecimento e a validação da matriz interdisciplinar entre história e literatura constitui um problema multidimensional complexo, que integra diferentes técnicas profissionais, educativas e socioculturais. Isso implica, sobretudo, a renegociação de um conjunto de regras de valorização dos conceitos, dos contextos, das práticas e dos atores humanos. Ademais, a abordagem desse conhecimento, simultaneamente interdisciplinar, local e global, exige novos contatos e novas formas de aprendizagem. Essa matriz curricular está sendo gradualmente produzida em diferentes instituições de variados continentes do mundo. Para mensurar o grau reflexivo e crítico desse incipiente trabalho acadêmico que vem sendo desenvolvido nessa perspectiva, as visitas técnicas que faremos a esses locais não serão, neste projeto, mais um tradicional passeio eclético que visa as noções estanques de história e literatura. Tendo em vista o estudo de uma efetiva intersecção entre essas disciplinas por meio de atividades externas e colaborativas, este projeto busca motivar os alunos de graduação a investigar os aspectos híbridos desse cruzamento de áreas por meios diversos. Para isso, as visitas técnicas serão focadas em conversas, entrevistas, conferências e estágios sob a tutela de pesquisadores e institutos que exploram essa relação de modo interdisciplinar.

Neste estudo, veremos que a narrativa mítica constitui-se como um dos veios psicanalíticos e nervosos mais profundos e representativos da cultura portuguesa, inclusive de sua literatura. Mas, desde Herculano, Garret e a Geração de 1970, difundiu-se, de fato, um diagnóstico crítico e psiquiátrico que revela um Portugal doente, de vida coletiva embebida num imaginário épico alucinante. O que nos importa salientar aqui é que os mesmos diagnósticos imaginários de outrora foram chamados à atenção na avaliação da vida lusitana ao longo dos séculos XX e início do XXI, atendendo a diferentes anseios sociopolíticos, é claro. Nessa perspectiva, abordaremos os estudos de Eduardo Lourenço e Miguel Real, que, além de constatarem a presença de " um irrealismo cultural existente entre o discurso oficial do Estado, dominante na imprensa escrita " (REAL, 2012), reconhecem a tradução desse aspecto no discurso literário, marca presente em muitos romances portugueses que consiste na representação alegórica de um discurso alucinatório, sugerindo uma reposição complexa dos cenários da história oficial de Portugal.

Pouco se fala sobre os intertextos do discurso jornalístico que se fazem presentes no romance português. Por isso, perpassando pela natureza dos poderes político-económicos que estão por trás dos instrumentos da comunicação, aqui nossa atenção especial será dada à análise dos romances O ano da morte de Ricardo Reis e A jangada de pedra de José Saramago, de modo a enfatizar, respectivamente, o cenário do jornalismo impresso na Lisboa salazarista da década de 1930 e o jornalismo radiofônico e televisivo da década de 1980. Observaremos nesse artigo que, com a leitura desses dois romances, torna-se claro o posicionamento de Saramago de que ambas as fases do jornalismo português, antes e depois da revolução democrática do 25 de abril, sofrem um processo de interferência contínua de manipulação e dissimulação das notícias, o que contribuiu para proliferar no discurso da imprensa certo “irrealismo”, nos preceitos de Eduardo Lourenço. Realizaremos, por fim, uma abordagem mais esclarecedora acerca desse irrealismo constituído por muitas décadas de dissimulação comunicativa, evidenciando esse e outros processos literários através dos quais o discurso manipulador da mídia é representado. Tais processos também serão reconhecidos no texto saramaguiano pela intertextualidade, em seu aspecto central, e pelos processos de alegoria e dialogismo.
